The City of Kyoto Symphony Orchestra was founded in 1956 under the management of Kyoto City Government to create a new culture in the city. It had a period of intense rehearsal led by Carl Caelus the first Chief Conductor. From April 2020, CKSO renewed its artistic leaders, and Junichi Hirokami became the 13th Chief Conductor & Artistic Advisor and John Axelrod joined CKSO as the Principal Guest Conductor. Junichi Hirokami, who has been a permanent conductor since April 2008 and has produced numerous famous performances and fascinated the audience, ended his 14-year term in March 2022. To move on to the next step, CKSO is advancing as a world-class orchestra befitting Kyoto, an arts and culture city.
2020年4月からは新指揮者体制として、第13代常任指揮者兼芸術顧問に広上淳一、首席客演指揮者にジョン・アクセルロッドが就任。2008年4月から常任指揮者を務め、数々の名演を生み出して聴衆を魅了してきた広上淳一は、2022年3月をもって14年間の任期を終了。京響は新たなステージへ向けて、名実ともに文化芸術都市・京都にふさわしい「世界に誇れるオーケストラ」として更なる前進を図っています。
