Kyoto Symphony Orchestra （ The Kyoto Symphony Orchestra ） was founded in April 1956 as the only orchestra directly managed by a municipality in Japan as a leader of new cultural creation in the ancient capital of Kyoto for the formation of civic culture and the emotional development of youth.
From April 2020, the orchestra will have a new conductor system with Junichi Hirokami as the 13th Permanent Conductor and Artistic Advisor and John ・ Axelrod as Principal Guest Conductor. His 14-year term will come to an end in March 2022. The Kyokyo Symphony Orchestra is now moving forward to a new stage as a "world-class orchestra" worthy of Kyoto, a city of culture and the arts in both name and reality.

The City of Kyoto Symphony Orchestra was founded in 1956 under the management of Kyoto City Government to create a new culture in the city.
From April 2020, CKSO renewed its artistic leaders, and Junichi Hirokami became the 13th Chief Conductor. From April 2020, CKSO renewed its artistic leaders, and Junichi Hirokami became the 13th Chief Conductor&Artistic Advisor and John Axelrod joined CKSO as the Principal Guest Conductor.
Junichi Hirokami , who has been a permanent conductor since April 2008 and has produced numerous famous performances and fascinated the audience, ended his 14-year term in March 2022.
To move on to the next step, CKSO is advancing as a world-class orchestra befitting Kyoto, an arts and culture city.
